Performing a soft reset
A soft reset stops all running programs, but does not erase any programs or saved data. Be sure to save any unsaved data within a running program before performing a soft reset.
To perform a soft reset:
  • Turn off the device.
  • Remove the battery.
  • Reinsert the battery.
  • Turn on the device.


Performing a factory or hard reset

A factory or hard reset clears all the user-installed settings, programs, and data. It restores the device to its factory settings. Be sure to save any unsaved data within a running program before performing a factory or hard reset.

CAUTION:When you perform a factory or hard reset, you lose all the data that is stored on your device
  • There are two ways to perform a factory or a hard reset.
    • Press and hold the number 6 key and turn on your HP iPAQ. Continue to hold the number 6 key until the reset message appears on screen.
      Or
    • Press Start > Settings > Security > Restore Factory Settings . Select Yes on the Restore Factory Settings screen and press Done . Press Reset on the confirmation screen. Your device will restart.
      The device resets and powers on.

HP iPAQ 300 Travel Companion Series - Resetting the HP iPAQ

The HP iPAQ 300 Travel Companion series device provides a Reset button that can be used to perform a soft reset.
A soft reset is a system-level reset that clears the SDRAM memory and restarts the device.
Follow these steps to perform a soft reset:


1. Locate the recessed Reset button.

2. Use the stylus to lightly press the Reset button until the screen fades.

3. Remove the stylus to restart the HP iPAQ. The HP iPAQ restarts and displays the Today screen



















NOTE:
These products do not support a clean or factory reset. Customers who want to restore the device to factory default settings can do so by upgrading the ROM when updates are available.

HP iPAQ Data Messenger


A soft reset stops all running applications, but does not erase any programs or saved data. A factory reset erases all user data and resets all user settings back to the product's factory default settings.

Soft Reset :
To perform a soft reset of the device, remove and re-insert the battery in the HP iPAQ.

>>>> Note : Be sure to save any unsaved data within a running application before performing a reset

Perform a factory reset :
To perform a hard (factory) reset:
Press and hold the Answer/Send key and the Camera button.
Press the Power/End key to power on the HP iPAQ and reset the device.

Reset Ipaq 500 Series( 510 / 512 / 514)

Performing a Normal (Soft) Reset on a iPAQ 510 / 512 / 514

A normal reset is sometimes referred to as a soft reset or a limited reset. A normal reset stops all running applications but does not erase any programs or saved data.

Caution be sure to save any unsaved data before performing a normal reset since a normal reset erases all unsaved data.

There are two ways to perform a soft reset on this unit.

  1. Power the HP iPAQ off by holding down the End key.
  2. Remove the battery of your HP iPAQ.

iPAQ 500 Series Button Locations

Performing a Hard (Full) Reset on a iPAQ 510 / 512 / 514

A full reset is sometimes referred to as a hard reset. Perform a full reset when you want to clear all settings, programs and data from RAM.

Caution if you perform a full reset, your iPAQ pocket PC returns to its default settings and looses all information that is not recorded in ROM.

  1. Power your HP iPAQ off by holding down the End key.
  2. Then hold down the center of the 4-Way Navigation key and power on the HP iPAQ again while continuing to do so.
  3. This results in a screen being displayed that asks whether you want to perform a hard reset or not. Select Yes . This will cause the HP iPAQ to reboot with it's original factory settings.

Reset iPAQ 900 Business Messenger Series

Normal (Soft) Reset on a iPAQ 900 Business Messenger Series

NOTE: The device doesn’t have a hard drive that can be formatted.To format the device and restore the factory settings, perform afactory reset



A hard or a factory reset clears all user-defined settings,programs, and data to restore the device to its default settings.However, the data in the iPAQ File Store folder is untouched. Therefore, before performing a hard or a factory reset, save all your important data in the iPAQ File Store folder

Performing a Normal (Soft) Reset

A soft reset stops all the applications,but does not erase any programs or saved data. It also resets all hardware registers.Save any data within a application before performing a soft reset.

Follow these steps to perform a soft reset.


> Locate the recessed Reset button at the top of the device.


> Use the stylus to lightly press the Reset button.


> Release the Reset button. The device resets and turns on

Performing a Hard (Full ) Reset


Follow these steps to perform a hard reset.



1> Turn off the device.


2> Press the ok button located on the right side of the device and the Voice Commander button located on the left side of the device.


3> Use the stylus to lightly press the Reset button, keeping the ok and the Voice Commanderbuttons pressed.

--- Release the Reset button.


--- Release the ok button and the Voice Commander button when the Clean Boot message is displayed on the screen. The device restarts and turns on automatically.

2> Tap Start > Settings > System > Factory Recovery . The Factory Recovery screen is displayed.


3> Type 1234 in the text box.


4> Tap YES . The Clean Boot message is displayed on the screen and the device restarts and turns on automatically.

A full reset is sometimes referred to as a hard reset. Perform a full reset when you want to clear all settings, programs and data from RAM. A full reset deactivates the battery the power button does not function until the battery is reactivated.

Caution if you perform a full reset, your iPAQ pocket PC returns to its default settings and looses all information that is not recorded in ROM.

  1. Press and hold the Windows, Ok and Record Buttons.
  2. Whilst holding these buttons, press and release the reset button on the side of the device.
  3. Release the Windows, Ok and Record Buttons, the device should now restart with a green "Clean Boot" message.

  1. Hold the Record , Start/Windows , OK buttons at the same time and and then using the stylus, press and release the Reset button.
